F.A.Q.
Why give away artwork?
Short answer: because it is fun!
Longer answer: I really enjoy painting, drawing, etc, but I don’t particularly enjoy selling artwork. I can’t possibly keep everything I make, so I have decided to give some away. I get immense satisfaction from sending my artwork all over North America (and hopefully the world, one day!)
What do you mean by “Creative Commons licensed?”
I mean that I give up front permission for you to use the artwork however you want- put it on a t-shirt, use it for greeting cards, use it as the basis for your own work etc. My only stipulation is that if you reuse the artwork, you have to also license that under creative commons as well. See The Creative Commons page for more information. The name to attribute the artwork is Karin Dalziel.
Why is all the artwork so small?
One word: Shipping. Large artwork is expensive to ship. For the sake of simplicity, I am only giving away smaller pieces (often prep sketches and paintings) right now. I have a few ideas for eventually offering bigger pieces for free, but time constraints keep me from implementing them right now.
Do you sell your artwork?
I may sell my artwork again someday, but right now I am not. This mostly has to do with time- it takes time to offer, document, package and ship artwork, time I just don’t have. Maybe one I am done with my Master’s degree and am only working full time.
I really like X, can you make another one?
All the artwork is one of a kind. However, the images will stay up on flickr, are at a decent resolution, and you can do with them as you wish (within the license agreement.) I have very high resolution scans of some pieces, if you want the high res scan, just ask.
Do you show in galleries, etc?
Not right now. Again, time issue. I have a plan in my head to exhibit my free pieces (this is why I am making the high res scans), but it won’t be for a while.
Is this a scam?
Nope. I can’t offer proof to the contrary, but you can check out my other websites, my twitter account, or my flickr account for a little assurance that I am, indeed, a real person.
Is there a set time for offering free paintings?
Nope. I was originally going to offer on regular day of the week, but my schedule is sporadic. If you want a better chance at getting one, you could follow my twitter stream, though I can get a bit chatty there. You can also sign up for the RSS feed or post by email.
Can I get more than one artwork?
I don’t really have any hard and fast rules about this yet. If you want more than one, feel free to nab it. I’d like to limit the number to each person at 3, but I may change my mind on this.
